Like celebrity reporters, mobile phone bloggers can hardly restrain themselves when moments of weakness are shown by manufacturers or networks. And thanks to Motorola’s slipping from a relatively weak position into the kind of nosedive that would make Doherty or Winehouse proud, the ailing manufacturer find themselves circled by many a large, bearded, cheeseburger eating vulture.

Comments such as this are rife, in fact: “Most of new Moto phones look pretty dated, low end and do not generate much interest…”

But, with the Motorola ROKR ZN50, things seem to have at least improved a little, because that same cynic above went on to say: “…but sometimes even Motorola can surprise us.” Because that’s exactly what’s happened with the ROKR, and we for one (or should that be we for many?) are happy for them. That’s not to say we don’t revel in other people’s failures now and then, of course, but being the mobile phones fans (/freaks) that we are, we think it can only be a good thing to have as many top manufacturers as possible working on new and exciting things for us to get our burger-greased fingers and thumbs onto. And, looking at this list of Motorola phones, we think it’s not all that bad. Yes, they’ve not made a profit all year and won’t for the rest of it. Yes, they’ve released (far) too many crappy phones the last few years. And yes, their adverts are about the most annoying, sickening, condescending and downright idiotic things our eyes and ears have ever suffered, but we think everyone deserves a second chance, especially when they make phones as downright lovely as the Motorola ZN50. It’s not highly spec’ed, but it is a very competent music player, has a nifty TV out function and an interesting looking new customisable 3-panel User Interface. And you should support it, you cynics you, because a world without Motorola will be a… well, it’ll be the same world really… but you get the point. Have a shufty at this Motorola ZN50 review for all your usual stats, or have a chuckle at this Blue Peter style video below.
